Our students love participating in Chess Club at Euclid School. We are very fortunate to have Bill Harrison, a former USCF expert; to coach this club alongside a faculty sponsor.
Research has shown that the game of chess has very beneficial effects on children development. The following points were noted by Susan Polgar, a 4 time World Champion chess player, as the most important:
-
Develop analytical, synthetic and decision-making skills, which they can transfer to real life.
-
Learn to engage in deep and thorough chess research which will help them build their confidence in their ability to do academic research.
-
When youngsters play chess they must call upon higher-order thinking skills, analyze actions and consequences, and visualize future possibilities.
This club is being offered to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students and meets Monday or Tuesday at 3:30.
