5th Grade MATH

Fifth grade is an extremely challenging and rigorous math year. The level of math performance is significantly increased from years past. It is crucial that every fifth grader has mastered his or her BASIC MATH FACTS in order to be confident and successful in fifth grade math. Below, you will find some of the core focuses in math throughout the school year:

Students will be working on all operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), multistep problem solving, and critical thinking with PLACE VALUE.

October thru December

Students will be working on all operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), multistep problem solving, and critical thinking with DECIMALS.

December thru February/March

Students will be working on all operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), multistep problem solving, and critical thinking with FRACTIONS.

February/March thru June

Students will be working on GRAPHING and GEOMETRY. Graphing focuses on line plots and graphs, collecting and analyzing data, and coordinates. Geometry focuses on area, perimeter, and volume of regular and irregular shapes along with classifying shapes by their angles and sides.
